The tongue is a very small part of the body yet it exert a powerful and permanent control on the way the body moves and act. One thing you must begin to do as a genuine child of God is to learn to use your tongue in the right way. Think about what you have done in the past and how it is hunting you. We cannot divorce it from the wrong use of the tongue. The wise man rightly said in the book of proverbs that ' in the multitude of words there wanteth no sin'. Most of our sins are committed by our tongue.
In the book of James chapter 3, we can find frightening attributes of the tongue.
The Tongue Is A Little Member But Full Of Fire
'Even so the tongue is a little member and boasteth great things. Behold how great a matter little fire kindleth.'
If there is any issue resting, it will take the tongue to add fire into it. Is that not responsible for the hatred and ethnic wars today? The tongue has great propensity to kill and destroy. It is a powerful tool in the hands of the devil to achieve his threefold ministry to steal, kill and destroy. How are you using your own tongue.
The Tongue Defile The Whole Body
In verse 6 of James chapter 3, you'll find that 'the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body and setteth on fire the course of nature..'
Samson was called of God and highly anointed for the mission but his tongue pushed him to strange women. He lost all the good things he had including his life. What about Nabal and Korah with his associates? They brought sudden destruction upon themselves and family due to wrong use of the tongue.
No Man Can Tame The Tongue
You need the power of God to overcome the evil influence of the tongue. That's why you must ask Him to briddle your tongue for you daily. 'But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison'. Verse 9.
What Is The Way Out?
We'll find out in verse 13. 'Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom'. Good conversation is about godly conversation and it is the key to living right. Let the word of grace proceed from your mouth to edify the hearers.
Are you wise? Do you want to be wise? Go ahead and start engaging in good conversation. Fill your heart with scriptures and your tongue will speak it out. Shallom
