The children of Israel were unfortunate indeed. Joseph had died and the new king Pharaoh of Egypt didn’t know Joseph. He turned them into slaves. It was a bad time.
Think about it for a moment. We do not always expect bad times when things are going well for us. Having a good job and career is a good thing. Rapid promotion and opportunities are good. Marrying the man or woman you love is a good thing. Bearing wonderful children after wedding is a good thing.
But things could turn around. What about sudden loss of job without warning? What about unjust career stagnation and victimization because your new boss does not like your face? What about delay in child birth after wedding. Things could be bad when circumstances change. It did for the children of Israel.
God Decided To Intervene
‘Come now therefore and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt’. (Ek. 3:10).God heard their cry and decided to intervene. While you have lost hope in ever getting healed God can send his servant to you just like He did to the children of Israel. A message of hope may come to you that you will be freed from the present challenge in your life. Yes. God never lie. Whatever He says, He will do.
God’s Message Brought More Sufferings
But Pharaoh refused to release them from bondage. Instead, he multiplied their sufferings.
That was a worse situation. They were near to freedom but the sufferings increased. Moses the messenger got frustrated. He didn’t understand why the suffering should multiply despite delivering God’s message.
‘And Moses returned unto the Lord and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? Why is it that thou hast sent me?
For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all’.
That’s not the end of the story. The oppression will not last. The suffering will not continue. It will be terminated by the superior power of God.
When things go worse for you after receiving message of hope from the minister of God, know for certain that the story will not end there.
Your oppression will not last. It will soon terminate. God is just telling you that the heavenly host are getting ready to unleash great force on your oppressors.
‘Then the Lord said unto Moses, now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land’. (Ek. 6:1).
The point is that your oppressor will be dealt with by the strong hand of God.
You will not lose the battle because the Lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace.
Israel won. You shall win too. God is a covenant keeping God. He says in Ps. 86:34 ‘My covenant I shall not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips’.
The Lord has said it. He shall accomplish it. Go now in this thy strength.
